Savageology – Discourses on Doc Savage

Meteor House’s second title for 2025 is Savageology, a supermalagorgeous volume (as Johnny Littlejohn would say) collecting Philip José Farmer’ writings about Doc: essays, pastiches, and even a screen treatment for the second, unmade Doc Savage film!

Farmer had two great literary loves, Tarzan and Doc Savage. He wrote biographies, pastiches, and authorized novels of each and continually referenced both of his heroes throughout his career.

In 2021, Meteor House published The Man Who Met Tarzan, a collection of Farmer’s articles, essays, letters, and speeches about Edgar Rice Burroughs and Tarzan.

Savageology also includes works by writers and artists who followed the Savageology trail blazed by Farmer: Iason Ragnar Bellerophon, Christopher Paul Carey, Win Scott Eckert, and R. Paul Sardanas. Additionally we have two pieces by Bronze Gazette editor Chuck Welch, a lengthy interview with Farmer by Doc Savage author and historian Will Murray, and interior and cover art by Keith Howell.
